Bunnyrabbit program ages 4 - 5The Bunnyrabbit Program is a fun, game-oriented introduction to cross country skiing for children five years of age and younger. A parent (on skis) is required to accompany children participating in the Bunnyrabbit Program.

The objective is for the participants to become technically competent cross country skiers and to utilize their skills to explore a wide range of cross-country ski activities, from back country excursions and winter camping to Ski Tournaments.
Cost: $80 Contact: Mary Burkholder, mary_burkholder@hotmail.com Nechako Nordics Ski S'Kool ProgramOur Ski S’Kool Program provides all the Grade 2, 3 and 4 students in the Vanderhoof area the opportunity to learn to Cross Country Ski. All lessons take place during school hours at the Nechako Valley Sporting Association trail system. The Nechako Nordics provides all students with good quality cross country ski equipment and fully qualified coaches.
Cost: $10/lesson Contact: Richard Burkholder, bur9000@telus.net Biathlon ages 10+Biathlon is the sport of cross-country skiing and rifle marksmanship. Young skiers can start in biathlon once they have the ability to skate ski, which is learned in level 4 of the Skill Development Programs and are at least age 10. Instruction is provided on shooting competency in both precision and biathlon style shooting, which includes shooting with an elevated heart rate, as well as ski racing technique. This group meets three times per week in the ski season which includes twice with the Cross-Country Race Group and once as the Biathlon group to focus on the shooting aspect of the sport. During the non-winter seasons, this group meets once a week to work on shooting skills. Those who choose to do biathlon are encouraged to participate in the biathlon races hosted across BC.

Jackrabbit program ages 6 - 9The Jackrabbit Program teaches the technical "FUNdamentals" on how to properly cross country ski through Skill Development Programs.
This program has been developed for children six to nine years of age but the Nechako Nordics accepts children into the Jackrabbit Program, with no previous skiing experience, up to the age of twelve if they are interested in joining the Racing and/or Biathlon Programs. Cost: $80 Contact: Mary Burkholder, mary_burkholder@hotmail.com Race Group ages 9 - 12Once our young skiers have completed the Skill Development Programs, the Cross-Country Race Group provides them an opportunity to continue refining their ski technique and learn the racing aspect of skiing. Instruction is provided for both classic and skate techniques, ski specific intensity training, ski racing strategies, and some dryland ski specific training. This group usually meets three days a week during the ski season. Those who choose to be in the Cross-Country Race Group are encouraged to participate in the cross-country ski races hosted locally and in other locations in BC.

Members of the NVSA (Nechako Nordics: Cross Country Ski Section) have unlimited use of both the Nechako Valley Sporting Association (NVSA) and the Waterlily Lake Trail Systems.
The NVSA Trail System has a new and exciting Terrain Park and Adventure Trail, over 11km of trail tracked for classic skiing, over 8km of trail groomed for skate skiing and more than 2km of lit trails for night skiing. All trails are well marked with good signage. The NVSA has a heated day lodge on site, with indoor bathrooms and waxing facilities. The Waterlily Lake Trail System has over 20km of trail track set for classic skiing with various trail loop combinations to challenge beginner to advance skiers. Dogs and responsible dog owners are welcome on this trail system. Geo-referenced maps of both the NVSA and the Waterlily Lake Trails are available to members of the Nechako Nordics. With the use of a free application, “Avenza Maps”, you can upload these two maps onto your smartphone and see where you are (and how to find your way back to the Parking Lot) at any time while skiing on these trails. NVSA members are welcome and encouraged to participate in all the Nechako Nordics ski tours, waxing lessons and the annual Lantern Ski at no cost.
